Aligning Student Assessments with MOE Requirements – Toronto

This seminar will provide teachers with an overview and examples of the assessment of performance standards as required by the Ontario MOE. It will help teachers develop and maintain good practice and clearly demonstrate compliance required for the school inspection. This seminar goes beyond Growing Success, as it reflects best-practices currently used by educators across Canada and the U.S.
The following topics will be covered during the seminar:
- Constructing learning goals and success criteria
- Defining types of assessment tools and choosing appropriate assessment tools
- Determining when to assess students Using technology in assessment
- Utilizing inquiry-based assessment
- Defining and incorporating Product, Observation and Conversation into assessment
- Triangulating marks
- Assessing learning skills and work habits
- Collecting and analyzing evidence of students’ work
- Developing a comprehensive assessment plan for the course of study
Target audience: Teachers and principals of private schools, both elementary and secondary, who are still new to the Ontario MOE regulations and policies regarding assessment and evaluation of students. It is also useful for teachers and principals who have not yet been inspected by the MOE.
Dr. Ronnie Miller
Dr. Ronnie Miller has substantial experience as a teacher, department head and school principal. For almost two decades Dr. Miller has been involved with and supported private schools in Ontario. He received his M.Ed. and Ph.D. at the University of Toronto – The Ontario Institute For Studies in Education. Dr. Miller is the author of two academic books in the field of political history. Currently, he holds the position of Executive Director of both the Canadian and American branches of Professional Development Seminars, and the position of Executive Director of the Private and Independent School Forum. Dr. Miller is also the Co-chair of MOSAICS Approach. In addition, Dr. Miller is a consultant to numerous private schools across Ontario.
