Sexual Violence and Harassment in the Workplace
April 23, 2015 from 9:15 am - 2:30 pm$249
The provincial government recently released “It’s Never Okay: An Action Plan to Stop Sexual Violence and Harassment.” Schools should be cognizant of this action plan. Many school and workplace policies dealing with Sexual Violence and Harassment might be outdated and may expose employers to liability, reputational harm, and financial loss. Drafting effective policies and ensuring that employees are regularly trained to apply those policies helps to create a safe workplace and reduce employer liability.
Premier Wynne has indicated the provincial government’s intention to strengthen the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The new provisions will include the establishment of a special enforcement team of inspectors trained to address complaints of sexual harassment and enforcement measures. Now is the right time to review your responsibilities and consider revision to school policies.
To support schools in meeting this challenge, Alan Wolfish QC, Former Director of Legal Services with the Ontario Ministry of Education, together with Harris Rosen, Partner at Fogler, Rubinoff LLP, have gathered a team of experts in the field and prepared a full day seminar to review these issues from 4 distinct perspectives: Legal, Human Resources, Law Enforcement, and Crisis Management.
