Summer Institute 2017 – Collaborative Learning and Cooperative Learning Across the Curriculum: Theory, Practice, and Fair Assessment
August 24, 2017 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm345 CDN + HST
In this relevant seminar the facilitator will explain the fundamental principles of Collaborative Learning and Cooperative Learning, and how these connect to the Ontario curriculum across all disciplines.
Collaborative Learning and Cooperative Learning, while having some similar features, differ substantially in critical learning areas. Many educators are still unsure of these differences or how to utilize these two learning approaches to best advantage the learning of their students.
The revised Ontario Curriculum and the current Assessment Policy (Growing Success) require educators to apply Collaborative Learning and Cooperative Learning approaches where possible and appropriate. In this seminar, the facilitator will provide a thorough overview of these two practices, and then tie theory and example together with tools for fair and transparent assessment of both.
Useful, classroom-ready templates for teacher use will be provided throughout the seminar, linked to practical means to demonstrate evidence of appropriate employment of Collaborative and Cooperative Learning to MOE inspectors.
