Google Apps for Education: Tools for Learning, Engagement and Collaboration, K-12 – Toronto

Google Apps provides teachers and students with a wide range of digital learning tools that support learning and collaboration in a limitless number of ways. This session will be an introduction to the core features of the Google Apps for Education platform. The day will be a combination of hands-on time with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides mixed with the sharing of powerful classroom examples built upon these tools. Participants will see how assessment, student creativity, collaboration and varied representation of learning can be accomplished through Google Apps.
This session is aimed at the beginner level of Google Apps experience, although the classroom examples will benefit all comfort levels. Participants need to come with either a personal or school district Google Account or Gmail account. Participants need to also bring a wireless device, ideally a laptop or chromebook.
Neil Stephenson is the Director of Learning Services for the Delta School District. Before moving to Delta four years ago, Neil’s last stop was at the Calgary Science School in Calgary, Alberta. Spending 9 years at this innovative, inquiry-based school confirmed Neil’s passion for student centered, technology-supported, inquiry-based learning. During Neil’s time as a teacher at the Calgary Science School he was chosen as an Apple Distinguished Educator, and was awarded a Prime Minister’s Award, a Governor General’s award and an Alberta Social Studies award of excellence.
