MOE policy for English language learners: STEP Resources For Private Schools

In this seminar Dr. Stille will focus on language assessment in education, highlighting what educators and administrators can do to implement effective approaches to assessing, monitoring, tracking and reporting on the language proficiency development of emergent bilingual students. The seminar will address the role of language assessment in diagnostic and formative evaluation, and explain how these processes can assist educators in supporting students to learn the language of instruction, while learning Ontario curriculum content. In particular, the seminar will discuss Ontario Ministry of Education policy for English language learners, and introduce participants to the Steps to English Proficiency (STEP) resource.

 

Presenter

Dr. Saskia Stille

Dr. Saskia Stille is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education, affiliated with the Centre for English Language Learning and Teaching Research at Simon Fraser University. She was a Senior Research Coordinator in the Ontario Ministry of Education Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, where she conducted system-level research on education reform.
