This seminar focuses on supporting teachers in exploring novel means of teaching mathematics such that students, regardless of their particular strengths and challenges, can achieve success on their terms. Through investigating the development of math instruction that not only focuses on student understanding, but also the appropriate embedding of inquiry and problem-based rich tasks, your teachers can provide students a deeper conceptual understanding of numeracy as a whole.
This seminar will provide specific examples of instructional strategies for the primary, junior and intermediate divisions; showing progression of tasks on a continuum of learning, affording students the experiences necessary for understanding of mathematical relationships and processes. This seminar also investigate ways of assessing math work to provide teachers with triangulation of evidence of student achievement (conversations, observations, and products). This workshop will provide teachers with takeaways they can use in their classrooms the next day.
