Summer Institute: Deep Learning by Design

Join us for this cutting-edge professional development opportunity to explore and analyze the new B.C. curriculum, with its increased emphasis on thinking competencies and exploration of big ideas. This learning will support both elementary and secondary teachers in developing further confidence and competence in moving beyond teaching of content knowledge to the development of student higher-order thinking skills, through guided use of meaningful tasks and student interests. Throughout this seminar the presenter will demonstrate and describe the interweaving of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Diane Graves is the District Vice Principal of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment with the Delta School District. Diane’s classroom and district work have all involved aspects of collaborative inquiry. In her current role, Diane facilitates school based teams to develop effective ways to weave formative and summative assessment approaches with a variety of instructional approaches using the emerging new BC curriculum.
